Gokhale Education Society’s Arts & Commerce College was established in the June 1983 and is affiliated to University of Mumbai. His highness Shrimant Raje Yashwantrao Mukane Maharaj of Jawhar state donated land for college building which is surrounded by dense vegetation. The college was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Dr. G.B. Sardar well known educationalist & owes a great deal to the inspiration provided by Shri. H. G. Alias Bhausaheb Vartak, the Chairman of the society who played a great role in revolutionalizing the life of Adivasis of thane district.
As per government special G.R by Government of Maharashtra, the Science faculty was newly introduced with 100% grant basis from June 2013. From a small beginning with 72 students in 1983, the College has grown since its inception into a big qualitative & quantitative with 100% grant-in-aid Science faculty in 2013. Presently, around 1200 students enrolled every year in our college and almost 1500 students admitted under YCMOU center of our college out of which more than 90% students are Tribal and backward categories.
